Junior Talks and Children’s Parties

Welcome to Surrey Bees. Our main objective is to promote beekeeping in Surrey and provide further education and support to beekeepers.

Surrey Bees takes an active part in the education of Children in Beekeeping through visits to local schools, scouts and girl guide groups and Children’s Parties. Each year we also SPONSOR a state school to set up their apiary and beekeeping club.

Children’s Parties

We offer a fun and educational 90-minute bee-themed party experience for children aged 5 and over.

Each session includes:

  • An engaging presentation tailored to the age of the group
  • Honey tasting
  • Bee-themed craft activities, including candle rolling
  • Viewing live bees in an observation hive (weather permitting)

Meet the Bees Experience

As an alternative, we offer a unique Meet the Bees session at our Hindhead or Wisley apiaries.

This one-hour experience allows children to:

  • Wear a full bee suit, gloves, and boots (bee suits and gloves provided)
  • Work safely with live bees under expert supervision
  • Learn about bee behaviour and hive management
  • Handle bees as part of a hands-on beekeeping experience

The session concludes with a honey tasting.

Beekeeping Courses for Young People

We also offer beekeeping courses for teenagers, leading up to the BBKA Junior Certificate. These courses can also contribute towards the Skills section of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

We are proud to have trained the UK’s youngest qualified beekeeper, who achieved this milestone at just five years old.
