Congratulations to the Class of 2017 Basic Assessment candidates who not only all passed their BBKA Basic Assessment BUT ALL received Credits! What a fabulous team of 18 students! The photo shows them as newbies the year previous. Looking forward to seeing some of you on the other intermediate classes soon.    

The Queen had certainly done her job on this frame, filling every single cell with an egg, difficult to find a more complete frame of sealed brood!  

Even a 3 year old can learn to dissect a bee. Here’s one Surrey Bees member, aged 3, dissecting a worker, under a stereo to view it’s legs, hairs, eyes and antenna up close.

The New Beekeepers of 2017 finishing their Theory Course. Now to go out in the field and the practical – hopefully putting what we’ve learnt into practise with their own colonies, at the training apiary, building them up over the spring and summer months to take honey off in August.  

One of our junior beekeeper members, Saskia, has worked hard creating natural products using beeswax and honey from her hives, such as scented beeswax candles, various flavoured lip balms, honey and even Honey Fudge which she is selling today at a Christmas Fair.
