• Materials:
  • The bee hotel is primarily made from bamboo sticks, which is an ideal material for attracting solitary bees. Bamboo stalks are used as natural nesting tubes due to their hollow interior, providing a perfect habitat for solitary species like mason bees and leafcutter bees.
  • The bamboo is arranged in a stacked, horizontal layout to maximize space and provide multiple nesting spots.
• Cavities for Solitary Bees:
  • The bamboo tubes are hollow and cut to varying lengths, each serving as an individual nest for solitary bees. These tubes mimic the natural cavities that these bees would seek out in trees or other vegetation. Solitary bees typically use these cavities to lay eggs, with each egg surrounded by a pollen and nectar provision for the larva to feed on once hatched.
• Separate Cavity for Bumblebees:
  • Bumblebees require a different type of nesting space. Unlike solitary bees, bumblebees are social insects that live in colonies. In this bee hotel, a separate cavity is provided specifically for bumblebees, a larger and deeper space behind the bamboo sticks, to accommodate their colony structure.
  • This cavity is made from wood designed to mimic the underground burrows where bumblebees naturally nest. The space inside can be filled with natural materials like straw, leaves, or dried moss to create a comfortable, insulated environment for the bumblebee colony.
