Evening Workshops

We run several evening workshops during the winter months. These are usually held at Worplesdon Golf Club, Surrey and we thank them for providing us with a superb facility and parking.

If you’d like to sign up for one or all of the workshops please complete the form below or email: surreybees@outlook.com – places on appointment only and full payment in advance. Costs include all materials and handouts so that after the demo you can work in groups making the product yourself to take home after the workshop. The next workshops are:

BeesWax Wraps Tips and Trade Secrets & Lip Balm and Lip Gloss  Workshop – Wednesday 11th Dec From 7pm to 9pm at Byfleet Village Hall – WORKSHOP FULL

  • Come home with a set of 3 Beeswax Wraps – Ditch the plastic cling film!
  • Learn how to make lip balms and lip gloss
  • Gain tips on products and different recipes
  • Come home with 2 Lip Balms and 1 Lip Gloss
  • You are welcome to bring your own beeswax and your own cloth (must be 100% cotton) to use in your end product.

Body Butter and Moisturising Cream AND Furniture Polish and Leather Cleaner Tuesday 11th February From 7pm to 9pm at Worplesdon GC Cabin

  • Cost £20 pp
  • All invited including partners
  • Learn how to make a rich body butter which can also be a hand/foot butter or salve and a moisturising cream which can be adapted to be used for a body cream or face cream.
  • Where to buy the products – cheapest product providers
  • Come home with a tub of body butter and a pot of moisturising cream
  • Learn how to make furniture polish (scented) and also a leather cleaner
  • No turpentine involved – so good for the environment
  • Go home with a tin of leather cleaner for your shoes and handbag and a tin of furniture polish
  • You are welcome to bring your own beeswax to use in your product.

Swarm Management Demo– Tuesday 10th March 7pm to 9pm at Worplesdon GC Cabin

  • Demonstrating both Pagden and Snelgrove Methods of Artificial Swarm Management
  • There will be ample equipment available for you to practise in small groups
  • Cost £10 pp
  • Handout provided

Swarm Management Live – Monday 18th May 6pm to 8pm at Pyrford Apiary

  • Apiary Session demonstrating the Snelgrove Method Live

Bee Disease Workshop – Saturday 18th April at Worplesdon GC Cabin

4 x 2 hour sessions – 10am  /  11am  / 12pm  / 1pm start – max 6 people per session (microscope dependent)

  • First hour spent classroom training on symptoms of nosema and acarine, how to identify and test, and how to resolve. Test own bees for nosema and acarine.
  • Second hour free time on bee disease quizzes, rolling presentation on all bee diseases and pests
  • £10 per person includes having bees tested.
  • You will need to bring a sample of 30 bees if you want them tested.

Pollen Identification and Mounting – Saturday 6th June at Worplesdon GC Cabin from 10am – 1pm

  • Identifying and mounting pollen grains.
  • Analysing your honey – where have your bees been foraging/what’s in your honey?
  • Centrifuge your honey to separate pollen grains
  • Maximum 7 people
  • Cost £45 per person
  • You will need to bring a small sample of your honey if you want to analyse it.
