Apiary Rules Practical Session

1. Anyone showing symptoms of Covid-19 or shielding should not attend the apiary.
2. Wellington boots must be worn to protect ankles; trainers or walking boots will not suffice. These are not supplied by SBT; the attendee must bring their own or will not be able to handle the bees.
3. Protective clothing (bee suit) must be worn before entering the hive area. These are provided on loan for the duration of the session. They should be returned at the end with the gloves.
4. Disposable gloves must be used; these are provided.
5. Tools are returned to the bucket containing soda crystals for sterilisation after each session.
6. Any member or visitor to the apiary should on arrival inform the SBT team if they are susceptible to a serious allergic reaction to bee or wasp stings and if so, do they carry an EpiPen?
7. EpiPens must be made available by the attendee if they carry one, in the pocket of the suit.
8. No minor will be allowed in the apiary unless accompanied by their parent or guardian and the SBT team.
9. Visitors to the apiary must have read the apiary rules and abide by them.
10. At no time during the session must veils be opened or removed.
11. If a visitor gets stung they must inform the trainer immediately.
12. The SBT team always carries a first aid kit.
13. All mentors have been trained in first aid and in particular anaphylaxis.
14. If after being stung, an attendee starts to feel unwell, they must inform the trainer. In the case of a serious accident or anaphylactic shock, telephone the emergency services, 999 (not 111).
