Meet the Bees Day another success!

We had a really successful Meet the Bees Day, Saturday last with 5 timed slots of several groupings of people come and get kitted out in a bee suit and handle the bees.

We had everyone from children aged 7 to grandparents attend, and what a lovely day; sunshine, the bees were kind (no stings) and the group were enthralled.

We had people from the following groups attend including:

  • Our Adopt a Hive Scheme, where members purchase a year’s share in a hive, (they receive a goodies box plus photos and newsletters about their bees
  • Potential beekeepers wanting to trial handling the bees before attending courses
  • People just loving bees and wanting to find out more

They saw queens emerging, being marked and clipped, adult workers emerging, collecting pollen, storing nectar, making honey, waggle dances and lots more!

We run this day every year in May – why not attending next year, it’s a great session!

Comments from attendees:

“Thank you very much for my bee experience today – very enjoyable and I learned lots!”
